TekstiThis property is a special property in this wiki. <P align="justify"> The lasso is an <P align="justify"> The lasso is an important tool in reindeer herding. It is usually made of a thin, strong rope 20-25 metres long. Attached to it is a <i>[[Giella|kiela]]</i> toggle carved out of reindeer horn with two holes. One end of the rope is knotted through one hole and the noose runs through the other. The lasso is a very versatile tool, which is used for many other purposes than just catching reindeer.</p> <P align="justify"> The North Saami word for lasso is <i>suohpan</i>. The word is derive from the verb <i>suohpput</i>, which means to throw. Corresponding forms of this verb are found in all the Saami languages apart from those at the extremes of the continuum: South and Ter Saami. A derived form meaning a lasso seems to be a feature of western Saami languages, and such forms are found in South, Ume, Lule and North Saami, as well as in Inari Saami, in which it may be a loan word from North Saami.</p> <P align="justify"> In the reindeer herding region, the word was borrowed into the northern dialects of Finnish, from which it has spread into the standard language in the form <i>suopunki</i>.</p>orm <i>suopunki</i>.</p>  +
