TekstiThis property is a special property in this wiki. <P align="justify"> Forms correspond<P align="justify"> Forms corresponding to the [[North Saami language|North Saami]] word <i>vuotta</i> bootlace are found in most Saami languages, and a direct equivalent is missing only in the easternmost varieties: [[Akkala Saami language|Akkala]], [[Kildin Saami language|Kildin]] and Ter Saami. In [[Inari Saami language|Inari Saami]] it constitutes the stem of a word that means instep : <i>vuodattim</i>.</p> <P align="justify"> There are related words in several [[Finnic languages|Baltic-Finnic]] languages, e.g. Finnish <i>vanne</i> hoop, band , which is the general meaning in Baltic-Finnic. This is different from the meaning in Saami, but in both groups the object designated by the word is used to bind or hold together some larger object such as a boot or a barrel.</p> <P align="justify"> In the easternmost Saami languages (Kildin and Ter), the word has been borrowed from Baltic-Finnic languages (Finnish or Karelian) in the sense of a hoop. </p> <P align="justify"> The word entered [[Early proto-finnic|Early Proto-Finnic]] from [[Proto-Germa|Proto-Germanic]], where it was a derivative of a verb meaning to bend, twist . This Germanic word family is represented today by the Swedish <i>vända</i> and the Norwegian <i>vende</i>, both meaning to bend, twist and German Want (nautical) shroud ; cf. also Gothic <i>vandu-s</i> a whip, stick for beating .</p> <P align="justify"> To this Germanic word family also belong Low German <i>want</i> (nautical) a shroud, stay , which along with sailing was borrowed into Scandinavian languages (cf.
