The owl eats its prey whole and regurgitates undigested parts in the form of long pellets. The largest owl in northern Europe is the eagle owl (<i>Bubo bubo</i>). </p>

Owls which hunt by day are the hawk owl (<i>Surnia ulula</i>) and the short-eared or marsh owl (<i>Asio flammeus</i>).
