<P align="justify"> This term refers … <P align="justify"> This term refers to the archaeological material of the [[Iron Age|Iron Age]] which is considered or assumed to represent the Saami. It is usually applied to a period characterized by Kjelmøy ceramics, which originally was dated to the Late Iron Age, then to the [[Middle Iron Age|Middle Iron Age]] and now to the [[Early Iron Age|Early Iron Age]]. The term has also been used to refer to a period stretching from the beginning of the Middle Iron Age to the end of the Middle Ages. This is based on the view that the [[Historical age|Historical Age]] of the Saami did not start until the beginning of the [[Modern Age|Modern Age]]. However, in accordance with the practice adopted in this encyclopaedia, the use of ethnic names in archaeological terminology is not an appropriate solution.
