<P align="justify"> Norgga Sámiid Ri … <P align="justify"> Norgga Sámiid Riikkasearvi (NSR) Norske Samernas Riksforbundet (the Norwegian Saami Association). In 1968 local Saami associations headed by the Oslo Sámi Saervi association founded their own national organization in Norway. Johan M. Klemetsen from Kautokeino was elected the first chairman. The NSR has been extremely active in defending the legal, cultural and economic rights of the Saami; for example, the Association headed the Saami movement in the Alta case and represented them in the drafting of the new Saami Bill in the 1980s. The NSR has been the largest group in the Norwegian Saami Parliament ever since its establishment; it holds a majority within the government, and the Presidents of the Parliament for the first periods of office (in the 1990s) were appointed from among its members. The secretariat of the NSR is based in Kautokeino.</P> <BR><BR>
