Kvartäärikausi
Viimeisin geologinen kausi, jonka alku on määritelty ajankohtaan, jolloin pohjoisen pallonpuoliskon ilmasto kylmeni jääkautiseksi (noin 2,5 miljoonaa vuotta sitten). Kvartääri jaetaan kahteen jaksoon, 'varsinaiseen' jääkauteen eli pleistoseeniin ja geologiseen nykyaikaan eli holoseeniin, joka yhä vallitsee.
